The Postgraduate Medical Institute (PMI) is located next to The MedBIC and is a partnership of currently 22 members involving all the NHS acute hospitals, primary care trusts and mental health trusts in Essex, plus Essex County Council, Ramsay and Nuffield Hospitals, The Royal Society for Public Health and the five faculties of Anglia Ruskin University. The PMI brings together the considerable clinical and academic expertise and resources of all 22 partners for the development of clinical and professional practice in health and social care.
The Institute includes a number of key laboratories including a world class high-fidelity simulation centre. This suite consists of 2 simulation laboratories housing a family of physiologically responsive wireless mannequins, including an adult male, a pregnant female, a 5-year-old child, a 1-year-old infant and a neonate. The suite’s versatile design supports training of different professionals in a variety of simulated environments – from a patient’s home to the intensive care unit and beyond.
The Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory at the PMI is equipped with a state of the art three dimensional VICON motion analysis system, two ground embedded force platforms and a range of pressure sensing technologies to gather detailed information on the movement patterns of a wide variety of patient groups.
The Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) Research Laboratory provides a multidisciplinary research focus on Molecular Diagnostics and Stratified Medicine. The CMB laboratory offers a dynamic and collaborative research environment for scientists and clinicians interested in research into disease mechanisms that can be translated into improvements to patient care.
